Crafting an outstanding CV or job application is crucial in today's competitive job market. Here are some essential tips to help you stand out. After writing for CVs for 10 years I am going to keep this quite simple:
If you have been working for less than 5 years your CV should not be more than 2 pages. At a maximum keep your CV to 3 pages.
A lot of people tell me they don't want to add a photo for fear of being judged. Including a photo can make your CV more personal and relatable. It brings life to the CV. Use a solid background and use a photo that closely resembles how you will look when they interview you (keep the snapchat filters for Instagram).
Keep contact details visible and relevant (cell phone number, email address, LinkedIn link). Many people say they are afraid of privacy issues however if you make it more difficult to be contacted, don't be surprised if you never hear back from anyone.
Highlight your top 5 skills and competencies on the first page. Add a small profile section that summarises exactly what unique experience you bring to a team and organisation.
Within your educational records state each qualification from the most recent to the oldest. Include any current studies (this shows your commitment and can be a great talking point during an interview).

Would your CV get a 5-star rating? Do not repeat your roles and responsibilities under each job title if they were similar. State them once and if it is required in the current job role, rather place it in the more recent roles.
You do not need to state your reasons for leaving any job, these can be discussed at an interview or an exploratory chat if relevant.
You are your best agent - show off your best projects, unique achievements or any rewards or recognition especially if relevant to the role you are applying for. If you do not tell them - who will?
State your work references clearly and provide an email and a contact number. Once again, do not make it difficult for recruitment agents or companies by stating: "referrals on request".
Include: system and technology experience, leadership experience and recent training and development. Showcase that you are learning and growing in a dynamic world.
By following these tips, you can create a compelling CV that showcases your strengths and makes a lasting impression. For personalised assistance, feel free to contact Prishani directly by sending a whatsapp (+27 82 586 5505).
